The Hike To Denton Branch Trail

The Denton Branch Falls is a short and relatively safe hike where the part that only takes longer is the road trip to get here. It only even takes quarter a mile to finish the whole trail so it is perfect for those who need a quick hike to see the waterfall. To get here, take west direction of US Highway 76 from Clayton until you reach Persimmon Valley Road approximately 8 miles. Take a right turn and continue to the Forest Service Road 70 which approximately takes 4 miles.

There are two markers at the entrance and one has the Coleman River WMA sign. Proceed further this road for 6.6 miles passing the Tate City Mall and pace further to the rough single lane Chapple Road. Just a short distance from here, you will then finally reach Denton Branch Road at the right. About two hundred feet from here, you will see the trail head for Denton Branch Trail.

US Highway 76 Nearby this trail is Tate City which is one of the oldest settled areas in North Georgia mountains. Old State City Road is a mining community which is still the name commonly used for Tallulah River Road (FS70). The trail is now a sparsely populated area where outdoor activities such as hiking, picnics, and camping are held. The scenic view of the area is usually the backdrop of some television commercials and even movies. Because of this, you will already have a good idea how scenic this location is.

Starting at the Denton Branch Trail’s parking area, which has been normally used for camping, get to Denton Branch by crossing some rocks. More forward then turn left as the path approaches a road to the right. Proceed to the trail to the left side of the branch which is around 300 yards towards the waterfall. Take a leisurely walk as you pace upstream and move closer to the cascading waterfalls.

From here, take the path back to Denton Branch where the waterfall is nestled. The waterfall is a magnificent attraction on this short trail which has two main cascades from the drop. This makes it worth the quick trek. Some people would even bathe in the waterfall due to safe its features and clean water. Moreover, the free fall is only approximately 30 feet from the top so it is safer compared to the other waterfalls found in Georgia where the cascade and the drop can be perilous to spectators.
